Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Sdn Bhd (MGRC) Launches its MGRC Eminent Speaker Series with Speaker from Stanford University

Kuala Lumpur, 12 March 2007 – The Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Sdn. Bhd. (MGRC) announced today the launch of its MGRC Eminent Speaker Series with Dr. Mostafa Ronaghi from Stanford University, USA. MGRC will be inviting other distinguished international scientists on a regular basis to present to the local community as part of its endeavours to empower Malaysian scientists with cutting-edge knowledge and technologies in genomics and bioinformatics research and innovation.

Dr. Mostafa is internationally renowned for his inventions and patents in DNA-based technologies. As a co-founder of Pyrosequencing AB in Sweden, he pioneered the development and commercialisation of faster and cheaper DNA sequencing. Officiating the first MGRC Eminent Speaker Series event was the Honourable Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YB Dato’ Kong Cho Ha.

“The MGRC Eminent Speaker Series, with the support of Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (BiotechCorp), is one of many programmes we are implementing for the local community as part of an initiative to widen the understanding of genomics and bioinformatics in Malaysia” said MGRC Executive Director, Munirah Abdul Hamid. “We hope that this initiative will enable Malaysian scientists to gain first-hand insights into key developments driving genomics research and technology innovations around the world.”
