Microarrays for Agriculture and Livestock

MGRC's Trait Analysis Services are designed to detect specific markers. Our microarrays can be used to screen multiple samples for hundreds of thousands of previously identified genetic markers within plant and animal genomes rapidly, effectively and affordably. The results can then be applied for vaccine and therapeutics development, marker-assisted breeding and selection of desirable trait and Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) such as increased yield in crops, and resistance to diseases and pests.

Types of Trait Analysis

Microarray Key Features
Crop Trait Analysis
  • Screens for thousands of validated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) derived from reference genome sequences
  • Enables genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in crops and plants, including Arabidopsis, maize, rice and tomato
Livestock Trait Analysis
  • Provides comprehensive genome-wide genotyping
  • Offers superior power to screen for genetic variations across many breeds of animals
  • Facilitates novel approaches for trait identification through GWAS
Mouse Trait Analysis
  • Targets SNPs derived from reference genome sequence
  • Contains thousands of unique genes and screens many samples in parallel

Applications of Trait Analysis Services

Whole Genome Genotyping Perform GWAS to discover QTLs, copy number variations (CNVs), and common or rare variants
Genetic Identity Confirmation Identify plant varieties and trace pedigrees
Linkage Mapping Locate genomic regions associated with a phenotype of interest
Whole Genome Selection Identify informative markers to create focused screening panels
Parentage Verification Trace the parentage of any animal
Prediction of Genetic Merit Improve breeding programmes by identifying plants and animals that will produce progeny with the desired trait
Marker-Assisted Breeding and Selection Determine the percentage of recurrent parent and select desirable trait
Disease Susceptibility Establish susceptibility to specific diseases or conditions by screening for associated markers
Crops QC Testing Identify DNA fingerprints to track samples and estimate inbred / hybrid and biotechnology (GMO) event purity

MGRC's customised microarrays can be integrated with the molecular markers which correspond to new or previously characterised genetic variants in different species of interest. This is to facilitate trait analysis studies by identifying variants associated with the desired phenotypic trait.
